Biography
Paramita Dasgupta is Regional Manager for IFC’s Country Advisory and Economics Team for Eastern and Southern Africa.
In over two decades at the World Bank Group (WBG), Paramita has held a number of positions working on public policy issues that impact private sector and financial sector development in South Asia, Sub- Saharan Africa and East Asia and Pacific based out of Johannesburg, Dhaka, New Delhi, Singapore and currently in Nairobi.
Given her extensive experience, Paramita is active in several innovative development solutions with a focus on enhancing private sector competitiveness and improving the enabling environment in emerging markets to make them more private investment friendly. Her core areas of expertise include business regulations, investment policy and promotion, sector competitiveness and overall policy environment for private sector development. The impact of technology and digital solutions for development is a key area of interest alongwith working with governments and the private sector in developing innovative climate solutions.
Prior to the World Bank Group, Paramita was the Chief Economist for investment bank Kotak Mahindra Capital Company-Goldman Sachs in India. A development economist by training, Paramita holds a Master’s degree in International Business and Economic Development from University of Reading, UK and has recently completed a course on Disruptive Technologies and Public Policy from the London School of Economics & Political Science.
