Biography

Michael is passionate about creating shared prosperity in Africa. He has almost three decades of consulting and global executive experience providing strategic and financial advisory services, and management consulting to private and impact-focused clients in several African countries. His background includes work focused on economic growth and development, emerging market growth strategies, innovation, deepening financial markets and inclusive financial systems, enterprise development, governance and advising startups.

He was President & Chief Executive of VisionFund International (2017-2020), the economic development and financial inclusion subsidiary of World Vision in 28 markets. In 1997 he founded JM Mantle & Co Limited, a strategic advisory firm and has been the principal consultant on more than 100 engagements in 12 African countries serving financial service providers, investment funds, private enterprises and foundations. He founded the School of African Microfinance and was the Course Director between 2005-2017 during which time more than 1,400 executives from over 40 countries participated. He has served on several private and not-for-profit boards.

He started his career in finance as an Associate with Loita Capital Partners, in Nairobi and Johannesburg working on structured and corporate finance transactions in several African markets.

He graduated magna cum laude with a BSc. Business (Finance and Accounting) from the United States International University – Africa
